GPS devices are more efficient than traditional maps, for obvious reasons. With the right tools, you can plot new routes and tracks on your computer and send them to a GPS device. This is what you can do with EasyGPS. It allows you to import data from various handheld GPS devices, modify individual waypoints, connect them and send them back to the device. It is an excellent solution if you want to back up your routes or share them with a friend.

EasyGPS is developed for Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Its setup file can be downloaded in a few seconds and you can install its components just as fast. You should also know that EasyGPS is freeware. You can use it for as long as you want, without encountering any adds, hidden fees or other drawbacks.

The application works primarily with GPX files, which can be loaded with the aid of a standard Open dialog or imported directly from a GPS device. Once you load a GPX file, the contained waypoints will be displayed in a list, in the lower left area of the interface, along with their labels, symbols, coordinates, elevation and other details.

A plot of your GPS data is displayed in an editing area, on the right side of the window. You can use various options, to move the map, zoom in or out, select waypoints or connect them to create a route. New waypoints are defined on a separate window, on which you must specify their coordinates and elevation, type in their names, labels and other information. It is also possible to link waypoints to a file or a URL and add photos, titles, descriptions and keywords.

You can right click any waypoint and select a series of options, if you want to cut, copy or edit the waypoint, set it as the active waypoint, send it to a GPS device or view it online, on a Bing powered map. When you are done plotting your route, you can send it to a GPS device, without any difficulties. Sending and receiving data can be done with separate options, but the procedure is the same. In both cases, you must select a GPS make and model on a small window and specify a connection method and speed. The application supports numerous GPS devices, including Garmin, Magellan or Lowrance, but it also supports the Apple iPhone and iPad, Android or Windows phones.

Pros

You can import GPS data and modify individual waypoints. The application allows you to change their labels, coordinates, elevation and other characteristics. Additionally, you can add pictures, connect waypoints, add new ones and view them online, on a map.

Cons

You can't load or import a map on the user interface. If you want to go on new adventures, you can use EasyGPS to plot your routes, without any kind of difficulties.
